HOLBROOK, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2018)—American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (AP), a privately-held, independent broker/dealer that services financial advisors across the country, announced today that it is increasing its support for World T.E.A.M. (WT), a national non-profit organization that brings adaptive and able-bodied athletes together by empowering, enabling and engaging individuals through inclusive athletic events. Through this support, AP has formally been recognized as the presenting partner for the May 3-5, 2019 Face of America (FOA) Gettysburg cycling challenge.

“I’ve always believed that corporations have a responsibility to give back to the community in meaningful ways whenever and wherever possible,” states AP CEO and WT Vice Chairman Lon T. Dolber. “The experiences AP has had through its association with WT have been transformative. Being able to share that with employees, affiliated colleagues and partners of the firm is extremely satisfying. Time and again, I’ve seen participants come away inspired and personally fulfilled when teammates work together, helping one another—both physically and mentally—to achieve what was never thought possible. AP proudly supports WT’s commitment to create life-changing experiences through these outdoor challenge events in this elevated sponsorship role.”

“We are grateful for AP stepping up as the presenting partner this year,” said WT CEO and President Jon Brideau. “Team American Portfolios has continued to be our leading fundraising team for many years, traveling as a large group from their headquarters in Long Island, New York. We are excited to bring this event to the next level with their support and leadership of Lon Dolber.”

For 25 years, WT has remained true to its mission to “change lives through sports;” and over the last 11 years AP has actively contributed its time and resources each year to events that join able-bodied and adaptive men, women and children to accomplish inspiring and challenging feats of physical endurance. Beginning with the 2007 expedition to Kilimanjaro, AP has regularly provided financial and volunteer support of WT’s events, raising more than $1 million in charitable funds for the non-profit organization. Team American Portfolios consistently earns the distinction of being the top fundraiser for FOA Gettysburg and participates each and every year in WT events, including Adventure Team Challenge New York (ATC NY), which engages medically-fragile, developmentally-disabled teens and young adults from The Center for Discovery during a weekend of competitive team sporting events; the Coastal Team Challenge (CTC), a two-day, 16-nautical-mile, non-competitive kayak journey along the coast of Long Island, N.Y; and FOA Liberty, a one-day cycle event along the Hudson River to the West Point Military Academy, which—like FOA Gettysburg—honors military veterans who have been injured or disabled during their service.

Each year, FOA Gettysburg brings together 600 participating athletes from the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada for an inclusive two-day, 110-mile cycling challenge from Arlington, Va. to historic Gettysburg, Penn. to honor adaptive veterans for their military service. The non-competitive ride includes both adaptive and able-bodied athletes – many of whom are returning FOA participants — who pedal together, providing assistance and friendship along the way.

Online registration for athletes and volunteers for the May 2019 FOA Gettysburg ride is now open. Funds raised will support the WT’s long commitment to creating inclusive events that bring athletes together. AP and Team American Portfolios look forward to a successful 2019, filled with inspiring WT events.
